Companions Animal Center (formerly Kootenai Humane Society) is an independent, non-profit 501(c)3, non-government, No-Kill animal shelter providing adoptions, low-cost spay/neuter surgery, low-cost vaccinations, microchipping, euthanasia, and food pantry. Q. Can an animal be spayed if it is pregnant? Yes. The sooner that you bring them in, the better. There is an extra charge. Q. Can animals become pregnant during their heat cycle? Yes. Q. How long does a pregnancy last? A cat's gestation period is average 65 days. A dog's gestation period is average 65 days. Q.CAC is contracted with the City of Coeur d'Alene, the City of Rathdrum, and Kootenai County to receive the stray/lost dogs picked up by Animal Control.
