Holy S**t, the Black Knight Halberd. So as a longtime fan I knew the BKH was the weapon of choice for speedrunners, but I was never interested in that and my favorite weapon was the great scythe, also accessible from the early game. So I finally did a run where my first objective was to grab the BKH.
22 Strength AND 18 Dexterity to use it two handed. Halberd-class weapons have a “stumble” effect for their animation when you don’t land a hit on an enemy. I’ve always figured it’s because they have exceptional reach, speed and damage, so the special “whiff” animation is the only real downside to these weapons.
I used Gargoyle halberd +15 (287+245) and lightning +5 (287 + 287) on minor capra NG+6(weak against lightning), deal 367 dame with +15 and 217 with lightning +5. Most halberds are Glaives and thus do not do pokes. The only exceptions being the Halberd and Red-Hilted Halberd which DO still poke. Pike's are pretty good, very good reach.
