So here's my theory, The giants are golems commanded by Nashandra. She commanded them the steal back the Giants Kinship and fueled them with giant souls. That's why they have "nerves of steal" as Drummond says, They are mindless beings assigned with the task of setting waste to the land, killing the inhabitants, and taking the giants kinship.
