Packstone

Packstone.—Grain-supported muddy carbon ate rocks are termed packstone (PI. VI). Grain-support is generally a property of rocks deposited in agitated water, and muddiness is generally a property of rocks deposited in quiet water. A rock exhibiting both properties is peculiar, and it is well to have it isolated for further study.

Packstone. The results show that siliceous bivalve packstone and clay bivalve packstone have better storage property; bivalve-clastic grainstone and bivalve mudstone have higher permeability; clay bivalve packstone has higher oil content; and siliceous shell packstone, dolomitic shell packstone and argillaceous shell packstone can increase the supply ...

Mudstone is a really pleasant-grained sedimentary rock consisting of a aggregate of clay and silt-sized particles. Terms including claystone and siltstone are often used in location of mudstone, although these consult with rocks whose grain length falls inside a good deal narrower stages and underneath near exam those ...Moving to grain-supported fabrics, a grain-supported limestone containing 1% or more mud-grade fraction is a packstone whilst a grain-supported carbonate rock with …If the carbonate is grain supported but contains a small percentage of mud, then it is known as a packstone. If the sediment is mud supported but contains more than 10 percent grains, then it is known as a wackestone, and if it contains less than 10 percent grains and is mud supported, it is known as a mudstone.

A pale grey to off-white or yellowish limestone, peloidal wackestone and packstone with subordinate ooidal and shelly grainstones, recrystallised limestone and/or hardgrounds at some levels with rare sandy limestone, clayey limestone, marl and mudstone or clay. The reef-related microfacies are mainly classified into calcisphere−pelletoid wackestone to packstone, crinoidal wackestone to packstone of shallow water bank environment, hypercalcified sponge bafflestone, calcareous algae−hypercalcified sponge binding framestone, hypercalcifed sponge−calcareous algae bindstone, and calcareous algae− ...The classification is based primarily on depositional texture, with the five major classes being boundstone, grainstone, packstone, wackestone, and mudstone.Mf4: Bioclast miliolid wackestone/packstone. This microfacies is characterized by more wackestone and low packstone texture and contains dasycladacean algae, echinoderm fragments, gastropods, as well as other fossil debris (10–15%), micritic bioclast (5–8%), and small benthic miliolids foraminifera (20%).The matrix is micritic, but now partially dolomitized. Oolitic packstone can be found in the bank interior on the flanks of ooid shoals in modern Bahamas (Harris 1983) and similar environments in geological record, e.g., Permian Grayburg Formation, Midland Basin of USA (Barnaby and Ward 2007).PACKSTONE . Recognising that these classes did not encompass all carbonate lithologies, Dunham defined two additional classes within his scheme: BoundstoneRed algae-bearing wackestone-packstone microfacies Red algae are abundant in the rock of the Yamama Formation. The most important of these algae species is the Permocalculus ssp. group, which is the main red algae group preserved as fossils, and most of the red algae belonging to this group are characterized by perforated skeletons.See other industries within the Manufacturing sector: Aerospace Product and Parts Manufacturing , Agriculture, Construction, and Mining Machinery Manufacturing , Alumina and Aluminum Production and Processing , Animal Food Manufacturing , Animal Slaughtering and Processing , Apparel Accessories and Other Apparel Manufacturing , Apparel Knitting Mills , Audio and Video Equipment Manufacturing ...Packstone containing oncoids and micrite coated grains coating siliceous sponge spicules, whole hexactinellid siliceous sponge bodies and echinoid spines from Lower Jurassic middle ramp, Morocco. Under the Dunham classification (Dunham, 1962 [1]) system of limestones, a wackestone is defined as a mud-supported carbonate rock that contains greater than 10% grains. Particle size and sorting in limestones can be described using a modified Dunham approach, classifying packstone as grain dominated or mud dominated, depending on the presence or absence of intergrain pore space. To describe particle size and sorting in dolostones, dolomite crystal size must be added to the modified Dunham terminology.

The Ocala Limestone consists of nearly pure limestones and occasional dolostones. It can be subdivided into lower and upper facies on the basis of lithology. The lower member is composed of a white to cream-colored, fine to medium grained, poorly to moderately indurated, very fossiliferous limestone (grainstone and packstone).22.65-24.65 Lithofacies: Arenaceous skeletal packstone and grainstone Depositional texture: Arenaceous skeletal packstone and grainstone Color: Very pale orange (10YR 8/2) and grayish orange (10YR 7/4) Sedimentary structures/textures: Part of a very thickly bedded interval Ichnofabrics: Ichnofabric index 4-5.
