John's Pass separates Treasure Island on the south from Madeira Beach on the north. The pass was created by the Great Hurricane of 1848 that separated the barrier island at that point. The first bridge was built over the pass in 1927. That bridge was replaced in 1971 and that one was replaced in 2013 with the current one. John’s Pass Park beach lot is another easy-to-get-to parking lot with under-the-bridge access to John’s Pass. The lot, which has nearly 100 spaces, is located on the extreme south-west corner of John’s Pass. To get there, simply turn West off of Gulf Blvd just before crossing south over the John’s Pass bridge. Be sure to pay the meters. John’s Pass is one of the best places to visit in the Sunshine State. It is said to have been created when an intense hurricane struck the barrier island in 1848. The first person to discover and pass through it was a pirate named John Levique, hence the name. Aside from its interesting history, John’s Pass also offers picturesque views.
