Posted: 30 Apr. 2014 at 3:05pm. After much thought, I have decided to upgrade the engine in my 1949 CJ2A to a Kubota Turbo Diesel. I love diesels and the Kubota V2203 is a nice swap in the Willys Jeeps. I inherited this Jeep in 2002 after my father passed away. It was his little baby. He bought it in 1974 from the grandson of the original owner.

So keep in mind if you find standard CJ3A seat frames the fronts will bolt into the same holes as the 2A frame. Not so with the M-38 frame. cj2a, Output seals can be changed with transfercase still in jeep. 1) remove drive shaft. 2) remove cotter pin and nuts form yoke. 3) pull off yoke. 3.5) opps forgot, remove parking brake drum. 4) use a seal puller and remove old seal. As I understand it, the band IS there to cover the end of the slot, which acts as a breather hole for the steering gear. The band is to prevent dirt from falling directly into the hole. Pretty sure it also requires pre-loading the diapghram. Both procedures are covered in the M38 TM. As is troubleshooting and measuring the pump for proper pressure and volume. It has a dual master cylinder pushing standard 9" drum brakes. The Pinto has a timing belt which can be changed on the trail if need be - been there. I use 5W-30 in winter, and 20-50 in summer. I do use single weight non-detergent oils in small air-cooled engines - but I stick with the multivis for all my water-cooled applications.Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money on the higher quality rebuild kit sold by Pete Debella.
