Get out of sleep mode by removing your battery, or by connecting your Kindle to computer by USB cable. On Kindle 3, go to the home screen, press Del Sym, type ";debugon" and press enter. You will now be in debug mode. Again, press Del Sym and then type "~disableScreensaver". You now have disabled screensaver.

With the newest Kindle adding any non-amazon purchased books through USB using Calibre seems to bug out the OS and put it into some sort of infinite loop of reloading. I'm not sure if that's what caused it for you, but if you guys have the newest Kindle and are planning on adding "Documents" then I would probably just stick to emailing them.

I’d recommend try plugging your Kindle into a laptop to see if you get a different outcome. Also you could try different USB to plug adaptors to rule out if it’s an issue with the plug.
