Kirke mechem. This American composer has garnered fame in the contemporary choral, instrumental, and opera worlds. Having composed more than 150 works in various genres, Mechem is especially known for his choral works, also receiving considerable attention for his opera Tartuffe (1977 - 1980).

KIRKE MECHEM (born 1925) is the composer of more than 250 published works in almost every form. His three-act opera, Tartuffe, recently was performed 18 times by the Vienna Kammeroper in its "20th Century Classics" series to rave reviews and "frenetic applause." It has had some 270 performances in six countries.
