The Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve is over 3,500 acres of wetland ecosystem, which measures 11 miles in length and averages 1/3 mile in width. It is home to a diversity of plants and animals, a number of which are endangered. The preserve is an important migrant stop-over and wintering habitat for an array of birds.

The Conservation 20/20 Program added 467 acres to the Slough. To date 1352.6 acres of land has been added to the Slough through the 20/20 program. This represents forty-two percent of the lands that make up the publicly owned portion of the Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve. The total acreage in the Slough is currently 3202.68 acres.This preserve is located directly north of Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve, providing a crucial hydrological link to improve water flow into the Slough. Additionally, this land is very important to the health of the Slough, as it contains its historic headwaters.
