People who speak Portuguese usually have an easier time understanding Spanish than the other way around. Portuguese has more sounds than Spanish. I said this in another post, and I think this may help you: A couple but common mistakes that come to mind from a Spanish speaker speaking Portuguese: Don't say "me gosto de tal coisa".
