It is not only a place of worship and an anchor for the surrounding community but, in the words of its archivist, Francis Blouis, a place where ‘all the arts are brought together . . . in the service of faith’.In September 1998, officials from the mayor’s office, Department of Homeless Services, the Fifth Avenue Business Improvement District and the New York Police Department convened a meeting with representatives of Fifth Avenue and Saint Thomas Church. The city wanted overnight privileges to the homeless discontinued. The churches refused.2 manuals, 7 registers, 4 ranks. This organ was built in 2008 for Daniel Hyde when he was a resident of England. It has a case of white oak.
