I'm fairly certain this security tag is without paint so it should be possible just to force them apart. If you want to be extra careful, wedge them apart and just cut the metal-needle that connect the two parts: it is not hard at all. I've been working at a store for three years and you'd be surprised how easy it is to remove these things.
