Sounds like Schrödinger's Lockpick. But seriously, I've noticed the lockpick doesn't use charges when it's used to exit a corridor thats in between the rooms in the crypt. I think that's intentional to prevent players from getting stuck. It's weird it deleted itself when you inspected it though.
