The thing you'll notice more than anything is the rpms at idle. Generally the car idles around 900 but during the regeneration it idles at 1,000. Also the fans go off like you're getting ready for take off on a jet plane. Crazy alarming if you're not prepared for it. But these forums help to the mind at ease.

I've said for years that buying a TDI does little more than get you to pre-pay your fuel for a few years. Take 2.0 litre Jetta TDI and 2.0 litre Jetta gas, same trim and according to VW Canada web site, the premium is $5000.

Yup, the OP is not talking about the engine glow plugs, he is talking about the separate set of 3 plugs installed in the coolant flange at the head for mk3 TDIs. They are there to help provide heat and speed up warm-up.
