The ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot, one of Austin’s most beloved Thanksgiving traditions, started in 1991 with just a handful of volunteers and 600 participants. Today it has grown to be the largest 5-mile run in Texas, with more than 700 volunteers and over 20,000 participants from all over the U.S. and beyond.

Dear thundercloud subs, I love you. I love you. I love you. I come here pretty often, usually when I'm craving a good sub. Especially when I'm craving thunder sauce. In 1987, a group of brave, pissed-off hippies stormed every Subway across Austin and created their own anti-corporate sandwich chain that later became known as Thundercloud Subs. This is a completely made-up story, but it’s certainly plausible. I gave them just a 2 1/2 notice. We had 22 amazing boxed lunches with various chips and cookies.
