Vendean

The army of the Vendean took control of Saumur and then planned to cross the Loire. The river marked the northern boundary of the “Whites’” advance up to this point, while Fontenay-le-Comte marked the southern boundary. The chiefs debated whether to extend their rule to the west, or to go up the Loire to Tours and then march on Paris.

It is primarily a meat breed known for its muscularity and ability to produce large litters of lambs. They have a fine, medium-length wool. Both Vendéen ewes and rams are usually polled, but occasionally rams can have small horns. Their faces and legs have dark brown or gray hair.
